Ronald McDonald House BC
Ronald McDonald House BC is owned and operated by the nonprofit organization Children's Family House Society of BC, and opened its doors on Oct. 4, 1983.
This 3-storey House has 13 bedrooms, a unique greenhouse-style children's playroom and is situated conveniently in the suburb of Shaughnessy, about 10 minutes from BC Children’s Hospital.
Ronald McDonald House British Columbia is a nurturing and magical home-away-from-home for sick children and their families where, together, their lives are enhanced through unconditional support, encouragement, friendship and love.
House Amenities include: a fully equipped communal kitchen, craft room, play room, TV sitting areas, quiet room, library, towels and linen, 4 sets of washer dryers for family use, laundry supplies, 4 phones, family computer with internet access, wireless internet access throughout the house and 9 shared washrooms.
Families can enjoy several activities such as arts and crafts, yoga and mindfulness and kids club.
Over 120 volunteers donate their time to support the house and families in many ways. Some evenings, volunteer groups host dinners for everyone staying at the House to give families a break from preparing meals. Other volunteers participate in arts and crafts, gardening and community days at the house.
Each year Ronald McDonald House provides service to approximately 400 families, some for a couple of nights when the children are in for a check up and some families for months and even sometimes years.
The Families we serve are from the Province of British Columbia, Yukon and some families from across Canada when the treatment they need takes place in Vancouver.
